Vienna gets world's tallest wooden skyscraper (PHOTO)

Ongoing construction of the world's tallest skyscraper made of wood in Vienna, 84 meters tall, will cost approximately EUR 60 million. This facility should be completed in 2017. The company responsible for this project is Kerbler, the daily newspaper Figaro reports.

The skyscraper named HoHo will house a hotel, suites, restaurant, office space. A tower, 76% of which will be made of wood, will be saving 2,800 tonnes of carbon dioxide more than a classical concrete structure.

- Concrete and steel are materials from the last century. They consume too much energy and their production involves the emission of large quantity of greenhouse gases - says architect Mike Green, a supporter of eco-friendly materials.

- Steel and concrete are responsible for about 3% and over 5% of greenhouse gas emissions globally, respectively - he explains.

These wooden buildings are gaining in popularity worldwide. The Swedish capital should obtain a wooden 34-story skyscraper in 2023. The world's tallest wooden building at the moment, called Fort Living (Four Living Melbourne), has ten floors and is situated in Melbourne. London has a wooden ten-story building called Stadthaus.
