Foundation stone laid down for construction of 235 apartments for refugees in Ovca – Project cost EUR 9.8 million

First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Ivica Dacic laid down the founding stone for the construction of 235 apartments for refugees from Bosnia and Herzegovina and Croatia, registered in Belgrade, in Ovca on Friday, August 9.

Dacic said that the cost of the project was EUR 9.8 million and added that it was a part of the Regional Housing Program for over 16,000 families, i.e. around 47,000 refugees living in Serbia. The Regional Housing Program is a long-lasting joint program of Serbia, B&H, Montenegro and Croatia, reports Beoinfo.

The laying down was also attended by Head of EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport, Ambassador of USA to Serbia Kyle Scott, Deputy Mayor Andreja Mladenovic, Commissioner for Refugees Vladimir Cucic and Ambassador of OSCE Peter Burkhard.

Andreja Mladenovic said that the City of Belgrade had set aside EUR 2.3 million for the Ovca project, as well as additional funds for preparatory works, which should be completed in 14 months, while the works on another 273 residential units in the neighborhood of Kamendin were being carried out simultaneously.

In 2015 alone, more than 100 families were housed through tenders, whereas in 2016, 36 families have moved in apartments in Kamendin. As well, it should be pointed out that 69 village households and 49 pre-fabricated houses have already been allocated.
