Elektroprivreda Srbije has announced a new, second tender for the construction of the solar power plant Petka in Kostolac.

This solar power plant with a power of about 10 MW, planned at the Cirikovac surface mine tailings dump, has been announced since 2017.

At the beginning of last year, a tender for construction was finally announced, and the most favorable bidders have been selected, but it was eventually suspended due to, as per the official explanation, "lack of available funds for this purpose".

- Due to the situation in the region and with the client (EPS), and especially bearing in mind the prices of oil, oil derivatives, coal and electricity, EPS will allocate all available funds to maintain production, i.e. to procure goods, services and works necessary for production energy and coal exploitation - this was stated in the explanation for the suspension of the tender in May last year.

The funds are now apparently available, so a contractor is being sought for the construction of a photovoltaic solar power plant, with power at the threshold of the distribution system of 9.75MW.

The landfill where construction is planned is in the immediate vicinity of the towns of Petka and Kostolac.

The solar power plant will be composed of 18,720 photovoltaic modules, unlike the previous solution, which called for 17,000 panels. However, these panels will have less individual power, 580 W, compared to the previous 650 W, however their efficiency will be close (21%).

In order to connect the power plant with the distribution network, the plan calls for the construction of 10 decentralized substations of assembly type, with a power of 1MW.

The deal is estimated at RSD 1.36 billion (around EUR 11.6 million).

As a reminder to readers, EPS also plans to build solar power plants on the coal ash dump sites of TPP Morava (TENT) and TPP Kolubara A, for which a tender was announced two years ago for the analysis of the construction conditions.

Dragan Vlaisavljevic, executive director of EPS for electricity trading, announced last fall that by 2025, EPS's main focus will be on the revitalization of existing hydroelectric power plants, and afterwards the company will invest in solar power plants.
