Construction of Marina and Development of Nautical Tourism in Sombor Planned

Sombor is one of the locations encompassed by the Sail Through Serbia project, where the construction of a marina and the development of canal traffic are planned, it was said at the meeting of representatives of the Port Governance Agency with the head of the West Backa District, Goran Nonkovic, and the mayor of Sombor, Antonio Ratkovic.

The head of the Center for Port Activity at the Agency, Srdja Ljesevic, pointed out that the project was being implemented together with the Government of Serbia, to the end of building nautical infrastructure – marinas and international passenger terminals, but also the affirmation of international, local and cross-border line and canal traffic, the Agency announced.

– Sombor is one of the locations covered by the project, where the construction of a marina and the development of canal traffic are planned. We would like to praise the readiness of the city to use the possibilities for the development of nautics. In the coming period, we will intensify the cooperation in order to create the conditions for a successful realization of infrastructure projects. In addition to that, we will continue providing expert support to Sombor in launching canal navigation and line river passenger traffic. The aim of the Agency is to position our country on the nautical maps of Europe and the world through the Sail Through Serbia project – Ljesevic emphasized.

The mayor of Sombor, Antonio Ratkovic, thanked the Agency for having recognized the potentials of the city for improving nautical tourism in Serbia. According to him, the planned infrastructural projects will contribute considerably to the economic development of Sombor.

– Our city provides the possibilities for the development of various types of nautical tourism, which we will fully develop through the Sail Through Serbia project. We will enrich the offer with a tourism information center, visitors’ center, footpaths, rests, sports and recreation courts and other features. Our mission is to develop nautical tourism in Sombor which will be fit for every visitor, so as to help the local economic growth – Ratkovic said.

The Sail Through Serbia project will increase the visibility of the nautical potentials of Sombor and Serbia on an international scale and have a positive impact on the development of the economy in this city, it was concluded at the meeting.
