Atanackovic: Part of the Economy to Have Problems Due to the Proposed Minimum Wage Increase to RSD 47,000

The honorary president of the Serbian Association of Employers, Nebojsa Atanackovic, said that part of the economy will have a problem with paying the proposed minimum wage for 2024, in the amount of RSD 47,154.

He said for the Beta news agency that the state had made a great concession to the trade unions by increasing the minimum wage by 17.8%, under the condition that the inflation drops to several percents next year.

– An increase of 17.8% is big, if the inflation drops to 5%. If the inflation remains high, the minimum wage increase will be bearable – Atanackovic said.

Atanackovic said that the Government of Serbia had also compensated the increased expenditures of the employers due to that minimum wage increase by raising the non-taxable salary components from RSD 21,712 to RSD 25,000.

He added that Serbian finance minister Mali had hinted at some kinds of help, such as loans, for companies which have problems paying minimum wages, but that he hadn’t specified anything.
