Space security systems do not end with alarms and cameras - unauthorized entry into a space often needs to be physically disabled, when mechanical and sensor barriers enter the scene
Control of access to a protected facility or entry into a public facility with the payment of tickets are an excellent training ground for the implementation of automatic systems, which, on the one hand, will ensure full security, and on the other hand, speed up the flow of people and reduce costs for hiring doormen, guards and other controllers. The natural solution is a barrier that will open under given conditions and let the man through, but it should be ensured that on that occasion with the person who should be missed someone who is not equally welcome, or someone who has not paid the entrance fee, does not pass. The inventive solutions that such systems bring should be combined with their mechanical durability, because they are often found in public buildings, potentially under the attack of vandals and even criminals, who can benefit from atmospheric conditions and similar factors that adversely affect the technique. Therefore, it is very important to choose a barrier that is adapted to the place where you will install it and the intended use.
Barrier types
1. Let`s start with the classic solution, a three-pronged rotating barrier that is often placed at the entrance to a public transport station or another facility where people come in large numbers and need to let them pass in a controlled manner in a short time. The visitor will "wave" the card next to the reader, insert a token or authorize in some other way, and then by pushing the horizontal arm of the barrier, simply pass on, while the arm lowers and the next arm rises to a horizontal position, preventing another visitor from passing without authorization. The arms of this barrier do not move by themselves, but are moved by a person passing by, so it is very important that the construction be robust - mechanical failure that would prevent the passage is not tolerated. It is also necessary to prevent an unscrupulous visitor from bypassing or jumping over the bar, which is why the design of the approach and the installation of the equipment is always left to an expert.
2. The three-arm revolving barrier is suitable for people who are walking and are not carrying any bulky luggage or cargo. Along with it, a VIP gate must be installed, which allows the passage of persons with disabilities or authorized clients who pass through in groups or carry larger luggage. It is a door that opens automatically after proper identification or on external command, remains open for a certain time and automatically closes when a person or persons pass. They should also be resistant to vandal attacks, and they should be supplemented with video surveillance so that possible abuses can be detected. It goes without saying that one VIP gate will be installed on several three-pronged turnstiles, because the frequency of passing through it is significantly lower.
3. For more exclusive facilities with a lower security risk and a higher frequency of people passing by, Sensor or high-speed gates are successfully installed. The passage is more comfortable for the client, because after authorization, the wings made of specially processed glass are automatically drawn into the pillars, providing him with a quick and easy passage, if necessary, with the transfer of the appropriate luggage. And without physical contact with the barrier. After that, the wings return to the closed position again, waiting for the next client.
4. The highest level of security is provided by comb gates. They are about 2 meters high and completely prevent the access of unauthorized persons to a protected facility, for example a data center or substation, and are also suitable for open spaces, sports fields and other critical facilities, and are often installed at the entrance to the factory area. There are models with three or four crossbars, as well as single or double passages, made so that it is impossible to get under them and very difficult to jump over them.

Selection parameters
Manufacturers provide proven technology to regulate the flow of people, even during the most frequent passage of employees and visitors. Their models are suitable for indoor and outdoor installation and, thanks to robust servo-mechanisms, ensure a comfortable passage. They are made of prochrome (stainless steel) and can be adapted to any environment in terms of design. The barriers consume very little electricity and are ready not only for regular, but also for emergency conditions, since in case of eventual evacuation the bars are automatically lowered to ensure a quick exit of people from the building.
Also important is the fact that the barriers easily fit into any IT environment - they are compatible with various types of card readers or fingerprint readers, as well as with other technologies used to identify people. If, for example, you are designing a data center, you know how important it is to allow access only to authorized persons for maintenance purposes, and for each of them it will be precisely determined which areas of the facility they can access. If the data center has multiple clients, some of them will often add new technicians, or de-authorize some of the existing ones, which happens within their information system. It is important that there is an effective way for the changes introduced in this way to be immediately copied into the information system of the data center itself, in order to guarantee access only to authorized persons at all times. Security and flexibility have to work in synergy.

Application field
Barriers are increasingly being used to control access in administrative buildings, public institutions and industrial facilities. They are placed in the entrance hall, in order to help the staff at the reception, but also in the outside area in order to limit access to the facilities to employees and members of an organization. They are also used to control access to sports and entertainment facilities, for example in the entrance hall of a swimming pool, spa center or gym. They can also be used for controlled access to a stadium, an amusement park or a concert hall, as well as at bus and train stations and toilet halls. In those cases, entry is allowed with the payment of an entrance fee, but also the possibility of using prepaid cards and other means of authorization. Well-constructed and correctly placed barriers are fast, reliable and easy to use, and bring the optimal ratio of quality and safety for the money invested.

In the coming period, we should expect a wider application of modern access control technologies, especially in the public sector, where gatekeepers and physical security are often still relied on. The production of electricity, drinking water, telecommunications systems, distribution chains as well as garbage collection and other vital functions represent the central nervous system of the modern economy - without this key infrastructure, nothing else can function normally, and risks in the form of vandalism, theft, sabotage, and terrorism are very present. Utilities must increase security not only for central control rooms and servers, but also for local facilities in remote locations - protection must be provided 24/7 while keeping costs to a minimum. Modern technologies are the key to successful implementation, and a reliable company will supplement the barrier system with an alarm and video surveillance.
