General Staff Building to Go to Trump’s Son-in Law?

Aleksandar Jovanovic of the Ekoloski Ustanak political organization said yesterday to the press that the minister of construction, Goran Vesic, had signed, on behalf of the Government of Serbia, the memorandum of understanding by which the location of the bombed building of the General Staff in the Belgrade center was “gifted” to the American offshore companies Kushner Realty and Atlantic incubation Partners LLC. He said that Kushner Realty had been registered in Delaware – “a tax haven for offshore companies,” on March 8, at the address of Jonathan Kushner, a cousin of Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of the former U.S. president Donald Trump.

Jovanovic said that Ekoloski Ustanak had received a copy of the memorandum from the Ministry of Defense, which had received the document on February 9.

– This is about the revitalization and – as it is written there – the development of the location of the General Staff building… whatever that entails – said Jovanovic.

The memorandum says that the Kushner company and its sister company are approved to enter a 99-year lease agreement in that location, without a fee, so that the company could become the owner after 99 years.

– What’s happening here is Belgrade Waterfront 2 – Jovanovic estimated.

He invited the Government of Serbia to, without delay, publish all the documentation about that arrangement and reminded that, in 2005, the General Staff complex had been pronounced a cultural monument.

The lawyer Danijela Nestorovic of Ekoloski Ustanak said that the memorandum was “a shocking document” and said that it had been “signed who knows when.”

She said that, by the decision of December 1, 2022, the Government of Serbia had authorized Vesic to sign that memorandum “which is not available on the website of the government and we don’t know what it says.”

Nestorovic said that the construction of a hotel or a residential-office complex – as was planned according to some sources – would be extremely inappropriate, because two people had been killed and 40 wounded in that location during the 1999 bombing.

Nestorovic explained that it practically amounted to “gifting” the two cadaster parcels on which the General Staff building complex was raised.
