According to the decision of the Ministry of the Environment, one of the most important thermal power plants of "Elektroprivreda Srbije", the thermal power plant "Kostolac B", received the most comprehensive permit in the field of environmental protection, EPS announced. As specified, units B1 and B2 of the thermal power plant "Kostolac B" have an integrated permit (IPPC) since August 15.

– Investment projects for the improvement of environmental protection in the thermal sector have received confirmation of success. EPS has fulfilled its obligations in accordance with the Law on Integrated Prevention and Control of Pollution and this permit, which prescribes the conditions for the plant operation in terms of environmental protection, was issued for 10 years – EPS clarifies.

The "Kostolac B" thermal power plant, they add, has a flue gas desulfurization system, a wastewater treatment plant, and stockyards for ash and slag disposal, as well as gypsum, are arranged.

– The final works for commissioning the SNCR system are underway, which will further reduce the emission of nitrogen oxides in the flue gas. All technologies that have been applied so far for environmental protection represent the best available techniques recognized by the corresponding EU document (VAT/VREF) – EPS says.

In February 2023, they remind, EPS received an integrated license for CHP "Novi Sad", which uses natural gas as an energy source to generate electricity and heat. The procedure for obtaining this permit for thermal power plants in the Branch TENT, TPP "Kostolac A" and other plants of "Panonske CHPs", as well as for Heating Plant Vreoci, are in progress.
