The president of Serbia, Aleksandar Vucic, said yesterday that it was important to establish cooperation with Azerbaijan and build a gas power plant of 1 GW in Nis, because that city had a big problem with power supply.

– We will start negotiations with Azerbaijan about building for around 1.2 or 1.3 billion (dollars) and to ensure for Serbia good electricity supply for the next 12 years – Vucic told the journalists from Serbia accompanying him at the international climate conference COP29 in Baku, in which he is taking part today as well.

He added that two questions would be considered at that conference: how Serbia could secure financing for renewable energy sources or non-fossil fuels, as well as the knowledge of how to “go for small, modular (nuclear) reactors and who to do this with, and not to have it last 12, 13, 14 years.”

Vucic said that Serbia and Azerbaijan had increased their trade exchange 30 times compared to the preceding years in the fields of arms, equipment, gas and other energy sources.

COP29 is organized by the United Nations in Baku. It is held until November 22.
