In addition to higher power, better efficiency and longer service life, with the rehabilitation of hydro power plants so far, Elektroprivreda Srbije has gained about 200 million new kilowatt-hours per year. That is why EPS plans to continue the modernization of hydro power sector and is preparing the rehabilitation of four hydro power plants – Vlasinske HPPs, Bistrica, Potpec and Djerdap 2, said Dragan Stankovic, Director of the Department for Maintenance and Investment in HPPs and RES in EPS.

At the panel discussion “The Role of EPS in the Green Energy Transition of Serbia”, organized by the portal “Energy of the Balkans” within 19th International Energy Fair, he pointed out that the adoption of the Spatial Plan for the project of construction of Bistrica PSHPP was nearing completion, and that there were no objections from the neighboring countries regarding the Espoo Convention, EPS writes in a press release.

Negotiations with the Japan International Cooperation Agency, JICA, on financing are underway and we are preparing to start developing the project in 2026 – said Stankovic.

Predrag Djordjevic, Kostolac Wind Farm Construction Project Manager, emphasized that, within the 66 MW Kostolac Wind Farm Project, access roads had been built and foundations for towers were being poured at that moment. Works on the construction of a substation and a switchyard, as well as on the internal cable network, are underway. The wind farm is expected to be on the grid in October 2025.

The completion of the construction of Petka solar power plant, according to the contract, is expected in February, followed by the takeover. The structure has arrived, the assembly is being done intensively, all modules, inverters and the substation are in the field – said Jovan Tosic, Project Manager of the Petka Solar Power Plant.

Milos Colic, Director of the Company New Energy Solutions and Chairman of the Board of Directors of RES Serbia, pointed out that this Association and EPS shared the same values and were going in the same direction.

– EPS has an engine, and we have a paddle that helps make our country greener and reduce our carbon footprint. EPS was the pivot in both large waves of RES investments and signed contracts with all power plants that obtained feed-in tariffs. All power plants that won the auctions also signed contracts with EPS. The management of Elektroprivreda Srbije wants more green energy and has created good conditions for the winners of the auctions – Colic said.
