Materials of the future - Heidelberg Materials Cement BiH

Podeli
Wherever you travel in Bosnia and Herzegovina, as well as in the region, wherever your eyes stop at beautiful and imposing buildings, be sure that they are built with materials produced by Heidelberg Materials Cement Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Heidelberg Materials Cement BiH is a pioneer in many fields, especially in the field of environmental and climate protection. For decades, they have been transforming the construction materials industry on the road to sustainability. The priority in the last few years has been to achieve carbon neutrality: to halve CO2 emissions by 2030, and achieve net zero CO2 emissions by 2050.

evoBuild

Heidelberg Materials Cement BiH already offers cements and concretes with CO2 emissions up to 68% lower. In order to make these products recognizable all over the world, they will soon mark them with the evoBuild brand and market them under that name both in BiH and in other countries.

- As business leaders of sustainable development, we lead the transition of the construction sector to sustainable construction. We offer all our partners sustainable materials, materials from which the future is built. Eco types of cement that we make in our cement factory in Kakanj are environmentally friendly, sustainable construction products, with the aid of which high energy efficiency of buildings is achieved, which is becoming a standard in construction. We are especially pleased that the transformation of the construction sector towards sustainable construction has begun in Bosnia and Herzegovina, because only through sustainable construction can we provide future generations with urban development and preserved resources and the environment - the company points out.

Smart Concretes

Their offer includes a complete novelty in construction, namely special eco-concretes with digital sensors that are embedded directly in the concrete and which enable smarter, faster and bolder construction with significant savings in time and resources. The Smart Rock sensor is manufactured by Giatec, which is also a member of the Heidelberg Materials group. The sensor is fully embedded in the concrete and offers real-time insight into the concrete`s early strength, allowing the project to progress quickly.

Circular economy

For the production of eco types of cement, Heidelberg Materials Cement BiH uses waste from other industries such as ash from thermal power plants and granular slag from the steel production process. By using these materials instead of clinker, which requires large amounts of energy, a reduction of CO2 from the fossil fuels used for clinker firing is achieved on the one hand, and on the other hand, material that would otherwise end up as waste is used.

A very significant reduction in CO2 emissions is also achieved by using alternative fuels.

- In the past few years, we have succeeded in replacing fossil fuels with alternative ones by approximately 10%. With new investments last year and this year, we will increase this share even more and thus make an additional contribution to the reduction of global greenhouse emissions, and further decarbonize our products - the company claims .

evoZero

As early as next year, Heidelberg Materials will be the first in the world to produce cement with zero net CO2 emissions. This cement will initially be produced at the plant in Brevik, Norway, under the brand name evoZero. It is the first cement plant in the world to have a carbon capture, reuse and storage (CCUS) facility installed. This will enable investors and builders to build high-quality facilities with zero net CO2 emissions worldwide.
